Final exam review

As in the previous post, (en) is bidentate, so the compound in problem 10 is not actually real (we can have a maximum coordination number of 6, corresponding to an octahedral shape - the coordination number here is 9).  But for the purpose of naming, we can still name the compound.







Crystal field theory

Please note that the compound in problems 2 and 3 is not actually real.  The coordination number for the compound as written is 8, which is not possible.  This is because (en) - ethylenediamine is a bidentate ligand.  If (en) were monodentate, it would be octahedral as in problem 3.  This is not actually correct, but the example can still be useful.
